Afton Harrison, 93 year old resident of Vinita, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. He was born on May 29, 1919 in Ketchum to Ode and Ethel (Vaughn) Harrison. Afton was united in marriage to Nadine Dobbs on March 3, 1941 in Lebanon, Missouri. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from 1944-46; Afton was a Purple Heart recipient, wounded in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Afton worked at B. F. Goodrich in Miami, retiring after 37 years with the company. He was a big Oklahoma Sooner football fan as well as a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. Preceding him in death were his parents Ode and Ethel Harrison, his wife Nadine in 1992, a grandson, Lark Bowie in 1986, three brothers and two sisters. The family includes: his daughter, Donna Bowie and husband Wayne of Vinita; a son, Larry Harrison and wife Betty of Miami; grandchildren, Lori Bowie-McClure and husband Kevin of Vinita, Chad Harrison and wife Kim of Vinita, Kyla Harrison-Hall and husband Greg of Liberal, Kansas; great-grandson, Austin McClure, great-granddaughters, Andrea and Rachel Hall and Kayren Harrison; sister Wilma Holland of Bartlesville and brother, James Harrison of Denver, Colorado. The graveside funeral and military rites will be held Monday, January 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ketchum Cemetery, with Rev. Ross Atkins officiating.
