Agnes J. (Sas) Mader, age 92, passed away peacefully, at Forrest Manor Nursing Center on February 12, 2012. Agnes was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on March 21, 1919. She was the fifth child of seven children born to Mary Rose Warzybak Sas and Pete Sas. She grew up in the Polish/smelter community of Pruneville in Bartlesville. She graduated from St. John Catholic School in Bartlesville and attended Central High School. After high school, she was employed at the Woolaroc Lodge and lived on the Frank Phillips Ranch for two years. Agnes met George E. Mader, Jr., and it was love at first sight; he proposed on their first date. They were married on July 25, 1941 by the Justice of Peace in Nowata, Oklahoma. On May 2, 1942, Agnes and her brother-in-law, Charles Mader, survived the tornado that traveled through five counties and brought the two-story family home located outside of Dewey, Oklahoma down on top of them and destroyed the family-owned resort of Linger-Longer. George and Agnes moved to 1231 N. Choctaw in Dewey after WWII, where they raised their three children and lived during their 60 years of marriage. Agnes was a wonderful housewife and mother, active wth her family and devoted caregiver to her sister, Sophie Sas. She was very generous with her heart and added richness to people's lives. She saw goodness in everyone. Agnes worked at Forrest Manor Nursing Home as a hairdresser for many years. She also volunteered as an ombudsman at Forrest Manor and was very active with the patients and events. Agnes had been a resident at Forrest Manor since May 2006. She is survived by her children: Mary Sue (Susie) Smith and her husband, Timothy, George E. Mader, III and his wife, Linda, all of Bartlesville, Betty Miller and her husband, Mike, of Copan, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Charles L. Mader and his wife, Emma Jean, of Los Alamos, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; brother, Leo P. Sas and his wife, Joyce; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Mader, Jr., on October 25, 2001; her parents and her brothers, Tom Sas, George Sas, Julius Sas; sisters, Mildred Barger, and Sophie Sas; and grandson, George E. Mader, IV. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Agnes' name can be made to the Forrest Manor Nursing Center Activity Fund, 1410 N. Choctaw, Dewey, OK 74029. Visitation for Mrs. Mader will be Wednesday, February 15, from 1-9 PM; and Thursday, February 16, from 9 AM-9 PM, in the Dewey Funeral Home, 802 N. Cherokee.
