Albert "Ab" Durham went to be with his Lord August 16, 2012 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, after a long battle with cancer. The world became a little brighter on February 6, 1932 when a little boy was placed into the arms of John and Mae (Beller) Durham, of Prattville, Oklahoma. From that moment on he impacted many of people during his life time. In 1949 at the age of 17 he signed up to defend his country during the Korean conflict. He was in the 73rd Tank BN 3rd Division of Fort Benning, Georgia. In November of 1949 his division was sent to Korea where he defended his country for three years as a tank commander. He was discharged from the service on September 8, 1952. After Ab returned to the states, he met and asked a young lady to dance that later became his wife. Ab and Freda (Roberts) Durham were married January 3, 1953 and celebrated 59 years and 8 months of a beautiful marriage. They lived first in Prattville before the moved to Nowata in 1973 where Ab built Freda's dream house himself. He was a very loving husband, father and SELFESSNESS was a word he never knew. Ab worked for the Postal Service for 33 years. Working first in Tulsa 19 years, then transferred to the Vinita Post office where he walked many of miles until he retired in 1996. He was so very proud to serve his country in the military and continued to do so as a veteran. He was a live time member of the V.F.W., Nowata Historical Society, Ex Co-Chairman of the Nowata County Democratic Party, and served on the Excise Board for 8 years. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church of Nowata and served as an Elder. He is survived by his wife Freda of the home, one daughter, Teri and husband Keith McLennan, of Tempe, Arizona; one son, Dirk and wife Stacy, of Vinita; grandchildren Sean and Jon-Erik McLennan, of Tempe, Arizona, Cory Durham, of Vinita; one brother, John and wife Wanda of Prattville; and two very special sister-in-laws, Frances Johnson, of Corpus Christie, Texas, and Joyce Roberts, of Nowata, as well as numerous Nieces and Nephews. Ab was preceded in death by his parents John and Mae Durham, two sisters Pauline Hughes, and Helen McKeithen, three nephews, and four nieces.
