Albert Ray Sherwood, "Rippa", age 85, Grove resident, formerly of Tulsa, died peacefully at his home Friday evening, September 21, 2012, surrounded by his family. Al was born on February 20, 1927 in Porum, Oklahoma to Carl R. and Nancy C. (West) Sherwood. He grew up attending school in Muskogee. Al served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Prior to retiring, Al was a Tulsa Fireman for 26 years, earning the nickname "Rippa". He also was owner of A & G Decorators and later, Al Sherwood Construction. Al was a 32nd Degree Mason, a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Moose Lodge, a member of various Horse organizations including the American Quarter Horse Association, The American Palomino Association, The Paint Horse Association, the Pinto Horse Association, the Appaloosa Horse Association, as well as the American Cutting Horse Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carving wood, leatherwork, painting, golfing, as well as many other hobbies, Al was a "Jack of all trades". He is preceded in death by his parents; previous spouses, Mary and Linda; brothers, J.K. and Bill; and sister, Nancy. Al leaves many loving memories with his family, wife, Golda; sons Dennis Sherwood and wife Jody, Donald Hurley, Steve Hurley and wife Vanessa; daughters, Paula Mullins and Tammy Bowman and husband Kurt; step children, Todd, Lisa and Blake Leibobitz; grandchildren, Kyle Sherwood, Gayla Mullins, Amanda Mahler, Brandy, Golda, and Kayla Hurley, Cody, Landon, Samantha, Frankie, Randy and Rusty Blackwell, Chasity Watkins; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as many other loving family members and a host of friends. Visitation will be 6:00 PM -8:00 PM Monday at Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home. Members of the Grove Masonic Lodge will be providing the Masonic Rites. Chaplain Geoff Buffalo will lead prayer following. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel located at 5111 South Memorial in Tulsa. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors team.
