Alden Edward "Ed" Jones, 83 year-old long time Vinita resident died early Sunday morning October 22, 2006 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. Ed was born September 13, 1923 in Weathers, Oklahoma to Isaac Leonard and Winnie (Baker Jones). He was a Veteran of World War II serving in United States Army Air Corp from July of 1945 to March of 1946. Ed married Betty Whisler on January 6, 1947 in McAlester at the Pittsburg County Court House. He was a carpenter, building many homes in the Vinita area, as well as a cabinet maker. He was an outdoorsman, loved to hunt and fish, a talented musician; he could play the piano, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and harmonica. Ed enjoyed going back to southeast Oklahoma for the Jack Fork reunion in September every year. Ed was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita and had served as a Deacon. The family includes: his wife Betty a resident of Rosewood Terrace, three children, Marie Wasson and husband Rance of Nolensville, TN, Gene Jones and wife DeNellda, Todd Jones and wife Deborah all of Vinita; two brothers, Arthur and Richard Jones of Oklahoma City; one sister Ora Gordon of Edmond; four grandchildren, Stephanie Jones of Northampton, Massachusetts, Mathew Jones of Roland, Brent and Elizabeth "Libby" Jones both of Vinita. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Joe and Alvin Jones; two sisters, Ruby Berkenbile and Marie Newsom. The family will received friends at the Luginbuel Funeral Home on Tuesday evening October 24, 2006 from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vinita with Reverend Bob Whitchurch and Rev. Roger Ortlieb officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
