Alfred Earl VanGundy, 91 year old former Vinita resident, died Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Edmond, OK. Alfred was the youngest of seven children born to Wallace and Mary (Green) VanGundy. He was born in Miami, OK on March 20, 1922. He served in the United States Army during the Rhineland Battle in World War II. From 1959-1984 he was employed at the Eastern State Hospital as an aid. Alfred had many passions in his life. His first and foremost was his love and service to the Lord. Alfred was a minister and loved sharing the word. He loved music and enjoyed playing and collecting guitars and harmonicas. He also enjoyed drawing and was quite the talented artist. Survivors include his daughter Betty Joann Banks of Oklahoma City, grandchildren: Sherry, Terri, Ray Ray, Gail, Kimberly, Rachelle, and Cathy, among the great grandchildren Levi, M'Chai, Justin, and Tiffany. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Raymond VanGundy, wife Pansy VanGundy, granddaughter Sheila, and siblings: Lawrence VanGundy, Goldie Brown, Lonnie VanGundy, Bessie Sparlin, Dorothy Sparlin, Hazel McBee, and Virgil VanGundy. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Dickerson officiating.
