Allen Barnes, 63-year-old Nowata resident passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be held at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2007 in the Living Word Family Church with Ben Killion officiating. Interment will follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home of Nowata. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 7-8p.m. Tuesday. The family has also asked those who wish to leave memorial contributions remember the 10-33 Emergency Team, 321 E. Cherokee, Nowata, OK 74048. Allen Barnes was born August 22, 1943 in Harrisonville, Missouri to William Barnes and Rosa Mae Creager-Barnes. He grew up and attended schools in Harrisonville. Mr. Barnes served his country in the United States Army for two years. After completing his service, Mr. Barnes married Marion Wisely on August 26, 1967 in Sheldon, Missouri. The two entered business as Sonic Franchise owners and have been involved with the company for over thirty years. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish-Rite, the Shriner's, the Eagles, the Nowata Country Club, and the "Windsor Bunch". He enjoyed golfing and was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife Marion of the home; by a daughter, Sheri Owens and her husband Shane of Nowata; by a son, Doug Barnes and his wife Mickey of Nowata; by eight grandchildren, Cougar Mader, Lexis Mader, Cody Owens, Lucas Owens, Justice Owens, Jakob Barnes, Dillon Barnes, and Mackenzie Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one sister, Sybil Coke.
