Alpha Eileen Steffen, 68, of Grove, Oklahoma died at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Integris Grove General Hospital. She had been in failing health for the last two years. Alpha was born April 28, 1940 in Coalgate, Oklahoma to Curtis and Geneva (Emery) Floyd. Alpha graduated from Coalgate High School and then attained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. Alpha was a wonderful wife and mother who enjoyed caring for her husband and rearing her children. Although the family moved often, Alpha was always very active in her local church with various mission groups. She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Grove. She had taught English as a Second Language. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and growing orchids. On June 12 1965, Alpha married Robert William Steffen at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They moved to Grove in 2006. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, James W. Steffen of Centennial, Colorado and Kenneth R. Steffen and his wife Danell of Aquilla, Texas; one daughter, Kathy Gibson and her husband Brian of Afton, Oklahoma; three brothers, Curtis Lee Floyd of California, Calvin Floyd and his wife Floyce of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Marion Floyd and his wife Sue of Coalgate, Oklahoma; two sisters, Armetta Peterson and her husband Bob of Lake George, New York, and Debra Floyd of Richardson, Texas; four grandchildren, Cole Gibson and Amber Gibson both of Afton, and Clare Steffen and Lucy Steffen both of Aquilla, Texas. Alpha was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Catherine "Ruth" Taylor. There will be a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, March 2, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Grove with Rev. James Wilder, Pastor Kenneth Steffen and Pastor David Holland officiating. Private family burial will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton, Oklahoma at a later date. The family suggests memorials to Oklahoma Baptist University in care of the funeral home. Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 711 S. Main, Grove, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements.
