Annabelle Battles

May 21, 1921 — August 25, 2012

Annabelle Florence "Ann" Sherrick-Battles was born in Strang, Oklahoma on May 21, 1921 to Oliver and Hattie (Baker) Sherrick. She went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2012. She lived her life with dignity and grace. She did not lose the battle, she won the race. Her formal education was earned in the Avant, Oklahoma school system. Admiringly gazing upon each other across a crowded baseball field, she viewed the love of her life, Lewis Battles. They were wed April 30, 1940 in Ochelata, Oklahoma. They eloped in a rainstorm and she always remembered the flat tire they had on the way. Still expressing astonishment the rest of her life, "I can't believe he chose me." With a strong love of family and the Lord, she worked for Him in many capacities including teaching Sunday school and children's church where she and her husband, Lewis, reared their family in El Dorado, Kansas. Ann worked many jobs throughout the years, including switchboard operator and seamstress for Montgomery Ward. She retired from Anthony's Department store, Bartlesville Oklahoma, where she used her wonderful sense of fashion as a Department Head Supervisor in ladies apparel. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis; mother, Hattie; father, Oliver; brother, John; and sisters, Alta Charter and Elsie Gentzl. Surviving are daughters, Dedra Sue Kolste and husband, Richard, of Bremerton, Washington and Anita Spencer of Red Oak, Texas; grandchildren, Ken Spencer and Kristy Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Spencer Piner and Tatum Vaughn; brothers, Oliver Jr. Sherrick and wife, Alpha, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ed Sherrick and wife, Louise, of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Tom Sherrick and wife, Helen, of Bartlesville, and their families. To glorify God and honor Ann, a memorial celebration of a life well lived will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 7, 2012 in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home Chapel.
