Annamae Mornhinweg

Mrs. Annamae Mornhinweg, age 94, former resident of Bartlesville died Sunday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mrs. Mornhinweg was born in Minco, Oklahoma in 1912 the Daughter of Jess Smith and Bertha (Burkhart) Smith. Annamae was raised and educated in the Red Rock schools. She attended Oklahoma A&M before graduating from Central State University with a bachelor's in education. While in junior high in Red Rock, Oklahoma Annamae met Bernal Mornhinweg. They were married on May 23, 1934, in Perry, Oklahoma. Annamae started her teaching career in a one room school house. Throughout her career she taught elementary, junior high classes and music. In Bartlesville she taught fifth grade and music at McKinley Elementary for 21 years. She retired in 1974 after 39 years in education. In 2004, Bernal and Annamae celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Mornhinweg was an active member of the First Christian Church of Bartlesville, she was active in the choir, bell choir and volunteered in the church office. She was a member of several organizations including the PEO, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Mornhinweg is survived by two daughters: Jerri Sparks and husband Gary of Tulsa; and Donna McKay and husband Carlie of Edmond. They have six grandchildren: Mike McKay and wife Terri, Debbie McKay and Leshia Pearson and husband John, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; Julie Knutson and husband Pete of Kansas City, Kan.; and Jill Sparks and Elizabeth Sparks, both of Tulsa. They have eleven great-grand-children: Jessica McKay Brack, Carlie Pearson, Ian Pearson, Summer Pearson and Claire Collins, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Paxton Sparks, Tulsa; and Ben Knutson, Will Knutson, Caroline Knutson and Henry Knutson all of Kansas City, Kansas and Brian McKay and his wife Lacey and their daughter Abbey of Collinsville, Ok, and one sister Juanita Osborne, Edmond, Ok. Mrs. Mornhinweg is preceded in death by her husband Bernal Mornhinweg, parents Jess and Bertha Smith and a brother, J.B. Smith. A memorial may be sent in her honor for the Bell Choir Ministry at First United Methodist Church of Tulsa, 1115 S. Boulder, Tulsa, Ok, 74119,. Or to the Professional Home Hospice, 3314 W. Okmulgee, Muskogee, Oklahoma 74401. Funeral services for Mrs. Mornhinweg will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Mr. David Calvert will be officiating. Burial will be on the family plot of Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
