Arthur Woods

Wayne Woods, age 80, a resident of Nowata died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Saint John's Hospital in Tulsa. Funeral services for Mr. Woods will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Benjamin Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Paul Hughes will preside over the services, with interment to follow in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of the Benjamin Funeral Home. A memorial has been established with the 10-33 Ambulance and those who wish to contribute may do so in lieu of flowers to the 10-33 Ambulance, 321 E. Cherokee, Nowata, Oklahoma 74048. Wayne Woods was born in Lenapah, Oklahoma, November 2, 1926, the son of Arthur William and Myrtle May (Pierce) Woods. He attended school at the Salt Creek School. Wayne worked on the family farm before starting his career with McDonald Douglas retiring with 15 years of service. His second career as a sales agent for chrome car bumpers took him all over Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. After his second retirement Wayne was active with the Nowata Country Jubilee where he served as a past board member and was affectionately know as "Grandpa Jones". He and Thelma worked the concession stand together for more than eight years before her death in 2004. Wayne loved to fish and was an avid gardener. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Mr. Woods is survived by three children; Michael Wayne Woods of Ramona, Ok, Bob Woods of Nowata, Ok and Joyce Ann Mabry of Bartlesville, Ok; one brother J.D. Woods and his wife Jackie of Nowata, Ok; one sister Thelma Randall and her husband Bill of Nowata, Ok; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Woods is preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Thelma Woods, his parents Arthur William and Myrtle May Woods, one son Arthur Earl Woods, one sister Dortha Bachelor and one brother in infancy.
