Grove, OK - Benny Ed Claxton, 59, died following an extended illness, Wednesday night, December 6, 2006 at his home in Grove, Oklahoma with his family at his side. Benny was born November 8, 1947 in Enid, Oklahoma to Benny Carlton Claxton and Anita Beth (Murphy) Claxton. He attended schools in Enid and Wichita, Kansas before moving to Grove in 1964 with his family. He graduated from Grove High School in 1966 and served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1967-1969. Benny was united in marriage to Donna Myrene Fields on March 27, 1969 at Dodge Baptist Church, east of Grove. He enjoyed his family and friends and had a wonderful sense of humor. Benny could always laugh at himself and with others. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, working with his cattle and living the rural country life. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Myrene, of the home; his son, Heath Michael Claxton of Grove; a sister, Shirley Cooper & her husband, Warren of Nixa, Missouri; his mother-in-law, Donna Fields of Grove; brother-in-law, Keith Fields & his wife, Kay of Grove; nieces, Terri Pribeck and Denni Jones and nephew, Tim Cooper; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Patrick Smith; his father-in-law, James Earl Fields; his grandparents and aunts & uncles. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Dodge Baptist Church, six miles east of Grove on South 690 Road with Pastor Sam Carper officiating. Interment will be in Fields Cemetery, located one mile south of the church, under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove. Visitation will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
