Benny Carrol Morrison, 79, born to the late August and Velma Morrison on October 14, 1935 in Indianola, Oklahoma, passed away February 27, 2015 in Joplin, Missouri. Benny grew up on a farm in Indianola, OK where they grew cotton, peanuts and corn. He had an older brother Vernon Morrison and two sisters, Janice Cuzalina and Shirley Vincent. They often reminisced about the long days in the cotton fields picking cotton and shaking peanuts. He told us of simpler times where spending time with family and playing cards kept them entertained and together. He would often speak fondly of his mother Velma, whom he said was up before dawn and to bed long after everyone else. He said she was the glue that held his family strong. Benny was a veteran of the US Navy. He served as a torpedo man on the Remora SS-487 from 1952 - 1960 during the Korean War. After leaving the service, he followed in his fathers footsteps becoming a member of the Free Masons. He moved to the Tulsa area where he pursued a long career as an Automotive Paint and Body Technician. In 1990, Benny retired and moved to Afton, OK to pursue his dream of living on Grand Lake. He spent many years boating, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends, enjoying what the lake life had to offer.
