Bernard Weintrub

Bernard Weintrub, 88, of Bartlesville passed away at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Ok on Monday, September 25, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2006, in The Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home with Rabbi Charles Sherman of Temple Israel of Tulsa, OK officiating. Military honors for Mr. Weintrub will be provided by the James H. Teel American Legion Post #105 honor guard. Funeral services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences can be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Berney was predeceased by his parents and brothers Alvin and Norbert Weintrub. Survivors include spouse Carolyn Weintrub of the home; daughter Susan Weintrub and granddaughter Rachel Blackburn of Overland Park, KS; and son and daughter-in-law Hal and Laurie Weintrub and grandson Ben Weintrub of Overland Park, KS. Mr. Bernard "Berney" Weintrub was born July 28, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the second of four brothers, to Sarah Fegelman Weintrub and Hyman Weintrub. Berney graduated from Hughes High School in 1936 and began his college education at the University of Cincinnati. Berney interrupted his college education to serve in the US Army from 2/11/1941 to 6/24/1945, where he spent 38 months in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and received 3 Campaign Stars and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Berney was a member of the American Legion Post No. 105, the VFW Post No. 989, the 37th Division Veterans Association, the 147th Combat Infantry Regiment, the Iwo Jima Survivors' Association, and the Guadalcanal Survivors' Association. After WWII, Berney completed his college education, married the love of his life Carolyn Russak Weintrub, and worked as an accountant for Rose Brothers, treasurer of Mehl Manufacturing, and retired as Staff Director from Phillips Petroleum Co. in 1986. As an employee of Phillips, Berney and Carolyn lived in London, UK from 1973 - 1985, where they enjoyed traveling extensively throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Berney was a devoted family-man of unquestionable morals and integrity who believed it was his obligation to help others. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. An avid sportsman and tennis player, he also enjoyed target shooting at the Sportsman Club in Bartlesville. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests donations to the charity of your choice.
