Bernice N. Hicks passed away after a short illness on Sunday, June 13, 2010. She was 91 years old and had lived in Bartlesville since 1991. Bernice was born on August 5, 1918 in Nowata, Oklahoma. She attended Nowata schools and graduated Nowata High School in 1936. Bernice married Charles Loyd Hicks June 17, 1939 in Nowata. They lived in Nowata County and the City of Nowata until 1964 when they moved to Tulsa where they resided until 1991. Bernice was a life long Baptist, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was active in WMU. She worked for six years as secretary at the First Baptist Church in Nowata. Bernice was a devoted wife, mother, aunt and homemaker. She will be remembered by all as a Godly, happy woman. Preceding her in death were an infant daughter, Loy Dell Hicks, her parents, Claude N. Plecker and Bessie J. Plecker, two sisters, Mary Pauline Stafford and Cleo A. Clemons, and a daughter-in-law, Jamee Hicks. Bernice is survived by her husband Loyd, two sons, Kenneth L. Hicks of Nowata and Glen E. Hicks and his wife, Diane, of Borger, TX, three grandchildren, Dustin D. Hicks of Nowata, Stephen E. Hicks of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Glen T. Hicks of Borger, TX and two great grandchildren, Corey Cunningham and Emily Hicks, two brothers-in-law, Henry T. Clemmons of Claremore and Avery E. Stafford of Everett, Washington. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. For many years Bernice was loved and supported by wonderful, caring friends in her neighborhood.
