Bernice Spalding

Bernice Ialene "Bea" Spalding, age 102, of Dewey, Oklahoma passed away December 14, 2011. Bea was born in Andover, New York on July 4, 1909 to John and Ruth Barrett. In 1912, she moved with her family to Dewey, where she received her education. Bea married Harold F. Spalding in 1930. She and Harold raised their six children in Dewey. They include John Spalding of Anchorage, Alaska, Phyllis Carroll Diaz of Austin, Texas, Roberta Burr of Dewey, Harold Spalding of Anchorage, Alaska, James Spalding of Dewey, and Bruce Spalding of Bayfield, Colorado. She also has 14 grandchildren: Cheryl Blake of Norman, Oklahoma, Teal Lang of Dallas, Texas, Mark Carroll of Anchorage, Alaska, Lisa McFadden of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lori Burr of Dewey, Mike Burr of Franklin, Tennessee, Steve Burr of Las Vegas, Nevada, Meghan Selinger of San Mateo, California, Michael Spalding of Lake Jackson, Texas, Jennifer Robertson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Metasha Olson of Dewey, Heath Spalding of Hillsville, Virginia, Misha Spalding of Ramona, Oklahoma, and James Spalding of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In addition, she also has 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Bea was an active member of First Christian Church in Dewey for many years. She was also active in the local Eastern Star Club as well as the neighborhood club and quilting guild of her church. She enjoyed nature, which included her many beloved pets, a full garden, as well as her plants. She was a mother/grandmother figure to many more than her own family members, as well. Bea is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Doris Barrett and Helen Hoose, her husband of 44 years, Harold Frank Spalding, and one son-in-law, Ron Carroll. She is survived by all six of her children, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many friends and family that helped make Bea's life so meaningful. She loved you all. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, from 2-4:00 PM in the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave., Bartlesville. Bea will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery at a graveside service on Monday, December 19, 2011, at 2:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be scheduled for sometime after the beginning of the year. Services are entrusted to Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
