Bernice Swetland

Bernice M. Swetland, 79 year old rural Big Cabin resident, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Claremore Nursing Home. She was born on February 18, 1934 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Gerhard and Bernice (Warkentine) Esau. Bernice married Raymond Lee Swetland on July 9, 1954 in Tulsa, Raymond preceded her in death in August 2006. She owned and operated Aunt B's General Store in Ketchum for many years. In her early years, Bernice worked for Public Service Company of Oklahoma. In her later years, she helped her husband Raymond with his carpentry business. Bernice liked to sew, cook delicious meals for her family, and work in both her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. She was very involved in her church and spent much time with her family and grandkids who were very dear to her. Those preceding her in death include; her parents; husband Raymond; a son in-law, Chet Hill; brothers, Gary and Stephen Esau. The surviving family includes; her daughters, Susanne Frost and husband Rick of Big Cabin, Stephanie Hill of Claremore; grandchildren, Kristen Frost, Kalli Davis and husband T. D., Kyle Frost and wife Ceci, Cherokee Hill and Caleb Hill. Her siblings include Fred Esau and wife Gloria, Tim Esau and wife Barbara all of Catoosa, David Esau and wife Lucille of Broken Arrow, Mark Esau and wife Loretta of Claremore, Joel Esau of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Karen Brookstein and husband Phillip of Aurora, Colorado; a sister in-law, Joy Esau of Owasso; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Anne Swetland; numerous, nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Tulsa, with Pastor Dan Esau officiating.
