Jay ~ Betty Leah Fields, age 83, died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Grandwood Living Center in Grove, Oklahoma. The daughter of Tom and Mary (Taylor) Wood was born on April 20, 1927 at Strang. Betty was united in marriage to Sam Fields on November 20, 1947. Sam was the Delaware County clerk for 37 years, and preceded Betty in death in 1996. Betty was member of the First Baptist Church in Jay, Oklahoma. She worked as a waitress for the Wintons Café and the Home Café in Jay, she also worked as a cook for the Guinn Nursing Home, Jay Public Schools and later worked as a teachers aide. Betty was a member of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women's, Home and Garden Club, and charter member of the Women of the Moose. She will always be known for her huckleberry pies and sauce, and very active in the community. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons Sammy Fields and Kenny Fields. Betty is survived by two sons John Fields and his wife Donna, and Joe Dee Holland and his wife Toni, both of Jay, Oklahoma, three grandchildren Micah Fields, Shonda Wallace and Keith Fields, six great grandchildren Sam, Will, and Carly Fields and Kade, Jake and Nick Wallace, two brothers J.U. Wood of Grove and L.D. Wood of Leach. Betty also helped raise several other children in the Jay area. A Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home chapel from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 13, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Jay, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Duffield Cemetery.
