Betty Juanita Jones, 81 year-old longtime area resident, died Wednesday December 2, 2009 at Rosewood Terrace. She was born September 6, 1928 in Big Cabin to Charles and Lorena (Trickey) Whisler. Betty graduated Weathers High School in 1946; she was one of three graduates. She married Alden Edward Jones on January 6, 1947 at the Pittsburg County Court House in McAlester; he preceded her in death on October 22, 2006. Betty retired from Cinch Connectors in 1994, where she was the quality control inspector. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinita, she had taught the kindergarten Sunday school class for 30 years, before moving to Vinita she had also served in the same capacity at the Ardmore Baptist Church. Betty loved flowers and gardening, she had a real green thumb she could even keep a poinsettia alive year round. She also loved travelling, giving her a chance to visit with all her family on her many trips. Family was a very important part of her life. The family includes: her three children, Marie Wasson and husband Rance of Nolensville, Tennessee, Gene Jones and wife Denellda of Vinita, Todd Jones and wife Debbie of Vinita; one sister, Virginia Campbell of Vinita; four grandchildren, Stephanie Jones of New Hampton, Massachusetts, Mathew Jones of Roland, Brent Jones and Elizabeth "Libby" Jones of Vinita; sisters in-law, Ora Gordon of Edmond, Dorothy Jones of Midwest City; brother in-laws, Richard Jones and Arthur Jones and his wife Rubel all of Oklahoma City. Those preceding her in death include her parents, her husband, and a brother Amos Whisler. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., December 7, 2009 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Bob Whitchurch officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
