Betty Louise Jones, 78 year-old lifetime Afton resident, died Thursday March 26, 2009 at her home. She was born July 8, 1930 in Vinita to Haden Arkus and Mable Lydia (Miller) Hale. Betty married Shorty Jones on January 1st, 1947; Short preceded her in death on March 8, 1996. She was a 27 year employee of Eastern State Hospital, retiring in 1988 as a Mental Health Aide III. Betty was a member to the Afton Assembly of God Church. She loved her grandchildren revolving her life around them; she also liked to raise chickens, crochet and garden. Those preceding her in death include her parents, her husband, a granddaughter Leah Fawn Jones, a brother Haden Hale and a sister Edith Hale. The family includes: three children, Jimmy Jones and wife Jackie, Mike Jones and wife Michelle, Gloria Kelsey and husband Jimmy Don all of Afton; two sisters, Shirley Smith of Miami, Mary Miller of Rose, a brother James Hale of Afton; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday afternoon at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The graveside funeral will be held Monday, March 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sixkiller Cemetery near Afton, with Pastor Greg Hiseley officiating.
