Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, Oklahoma, 918-786-2261. Betty C. (Boyd) Scott, 80, transitioned from this life Monday, March 18, surrounded by her children and family who remained by her side for numerous days, around the clock, to protect her and support her shift to the next chapter in her spiritual journey.
She was born in Joplin, Missouri, January 23, 1939, to Gaston Z. and Virginia A. Boyd, an only child. She grew up in Joplin and attended Joplin Schools through Joplin Junior College (JJC). She met her husband of 61 years, Harvey W. Scott, at JJC they were both attending, they fell in love and were married February 7, 1958 in Joplin. Harvey preceded her in death by only 38 days. Many times, true loves follow one another into the next level of existence in a short amount of time, and that is exactly what Betty did, she followed her love, Harvey, 38 days after he passed.
Betty had four grown children, Christi Scott Ashe Solis; Jeff Scott (Kirk); Darin Scott (Reina) all who live in Topeka, Kansas; and Gregg Scott (Toyna) in Diamond, Missouri. She, with Harvey, loved their grandchildren, Ryan, Brad, Nick, Jacob, Jaydn, Joshua and Jordan, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, sisters and brother by marriage.
For the first 14 years of her marriage, she was a stay at home Mom of the best kind. Teaching her children manners, to treat others, and themselves with respect; along with being room Mother for all her kids over the years. She made certain we knew how to eat a properly balanced meal, morning, noon and evening … that was exceptionally important to her, to make sure her children were well fed, loved and cared for. She was a good Mom to the very end, always wanting to feed us.
Betty was a member of the Eastern Star in her younger years and supported her daughter Christi in the Rainbow Girls. She supported her sons in a myriad of sports over the years, not really wanting to see anyone get hurt, but loved the competition. In fact, one of her and Harvey's past time activities was to watch Golf Tournaments on TV, she said it was calm, green, peaceful and exact.
Betty had tremendous interpersonal skills, never meeting a stranger, which is why she was continually successful in of all types of retail through decades in Joplin, and Grove, Oklahoma.
Betty sustained a reciprocal and remarkable 75-year friendship with her lifelong best friend Sue Gilbreath from Joplin, now living in Neosho, after surviving the 2011 tornado in Joplin. Betty and Sue made a point to meet for lunch or coffee every Wednesday, every week for decades, and Sue was present to tell her she loved her at the very end. What an example of a beautiful and nurtured friendship. We could certainly use more examples of such remarkable and time-tested relationships.
Betty was known for her amazing sense of fashion and style, always dressed impeccably, with everything matching from her clothes, nails, jewelry and down to her shoes. Betty was a classy lady, no question, and she liked, and felt it was right thing to present your best, and she did.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held Saturday, March 30, at 1:00 PM at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, 711 S. Main Street, in Grove, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests lifesaving donations be given to the Grove Humane Society, 64290 E. 290 Rd., PO Box 451205, Grove, Oklahoma, (918) 786-7630, in honor of Mom.
