Betty married Richard Svoboda on September 2, 1951 at the First Lutheran Church in Little Rock, AR. They lived in little Rock where they raised their daughters Donna and Karen. Betty always made sure they were in church and Sunday school each Sunday. Betty and Richard made a sacrifice to send both daughters to Lutheran School. She was involved with the school, helping in the church office and serving in the PTA. When the kids were older, Betty went back to work doing bookkeeping for Herb Davis Construction and Toll Manufacturing. In 1975, she started college at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and graduated in 1980 with a degree in accounting. She went on to earn her CPA license and worked as an auditor for the State of Arkansas. She retired from the State in 1991 and moved to Grand Lake. She loved to watch the sunsets over Sailboat Bridge. Mom was an avid student of God's Word and especially enjoyed learning about the history associated with the times to put it into context. She was trained as a leader of the Bethel Bible Series and then taught classes to the congregation. When Betty and Richard moved to Grove, they joined S. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairland, OK. She was an outstanding Sunday school teacher and started the Ladies Bible Study in addition to cooking for every occasion and serving as education chairman and treasurer. She was an active participant in Dorcas and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She will be remembered for her strong faith and as one of the best cooks ever. Both were her passion. Betty and Richard were fortunate to have many years to travel around the United States. She was always planning a trip studying the AAA travel guides and maps.
