ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK - (918) 336-5225 - Betty L. Wassom, age 87 and resident of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in the Barnsdall Nursing Home. Betty Lorene (Burdett) Wassom was born on May 10, 1929 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the daughter of Homer Burdett and Cecil (Ward) Burdett. She grew up in Bowring, Oklahoma where she received her education, graduating with her Bowring Sr. Class. After high school, Betty married Edwin Eugene "Gene" Wassom, Sr. in Sedan, Kansas. The couple lived in Kansas until Gene became employed with the Bartlesville Reda Pump company and they moved to Bartlesville. Betty was an employee of the Montessori Academy (child-care) and she also worked for United Linen, both of Bartlesville. The Wassom couple were married for 48 years. Gene preceded Betty in death on October 27, 1997. For many years, Betty and Gene participated in Square Dancing activities which they enjoyed very much. The couple also loved camping at the lake, traveling, planting a garden and taking care of their cattle. Betty "Mim" never missed a sporting event for her grandkids. She was their biggest fan. She was known for hauling around her grandson's team and even washing out their baseball uniforms in hotel bath tubs. Her grandkids were her life. Betty dearly loved her family and they were devoted to her as well. She will be missed by many. Survivors include her son, Bill Wassom of Okesa, Oklahoma; one grandson, Earl Wassom and his wife, Laurie, of Barnsdall; three great-grandsons, Kaleb, Luke and Noah Wassom; brother, Jim Burdett and his wife, Candy, of Conroe, Texas; sisters, Emma Wolf and her husband, Dale, of Chautauqua, Kansas, Charlene Sturges of Sedan, and Ida Lou Lewis of Lawrence, Kansas and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; son, Edwin Eugene Wassom, "Jr."; her daughter-in-law Paula Wassom Remington; along with her brother Don and sisters Bobbie Jo and Blanche. Come and go visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Services will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM in the Lighthouse Family Worship Center, Barnsdall. Rev. Barry Gott will be the officiant.
