Afton - Betty Jane Winkler, age 81, of Afton, Oklahoma, formerly of Kankakee, Illinois died December 17, 2007 in Grove, Oklahoma after a lingering illness. At her request, there is no visitation or service planned. Betty was born January 28, 1926, in Gilman Illinois, daughter of Raymond J. and Elma (Gillespie) Classen of Danforth, Illinois. She graduated from Gillman Community High School in 1943. Betty was married to James T. Winkler January 9 1981 in Rogers, Arkansas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grove, Oklahoma. She had previously been a member of the churches and choirs in Kankakee, Illinois, Elkhart, Indiana, and Rogers, Arkansas. Mrs. Winkler was retired from Pel-Free of Rogers, Arkansas, where she was a Marketing Representative for Biological Products and Serums. She had been previously employed in similar positions with Armour Labs and Miles Labs in Kankakee, Illinois and Bayer Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana. Betty was well known to her friends in the Grove area as an avid pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings. Her father, husband, two brothers were also pilots. She was an immaculate housekeeper, a fabulous cook and enjoyed traveling, especially when flying her own plane. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Raymond Classen and Elma Classen of Danforth, Illinois. She is survived by her husband James T. Winkler of Afton, Oklahoma, three children, Maria Lemmond and her husband Walter of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Steven Joe Redmand and his wife Lara of Kankakee, Illinois, Douglas Redman and his wife Marsha of Lee's Summit, Missouri, eight grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Charles Classen and his wife Norma of Danforth, Illinois, Harry Classen and his wife Bonnie of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, sisters Virginia Tholen and her husband Ray of Carterville, Illinois and Annette Walczak and her husband Michael of Naperville, Illinois, Tuck (Bill) Winkler of Galesburg, Kansas and Mary Winkler of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and one aunt, Gladys Schroeder of Gilman, Illinois.
