Billie Jean James 82 year-old Chelsea resident, died Thursday February 26, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born February 19, 1927 in Big Cabin to O. L. "Ras" Epperson and Ludie Nell (Ketchum) Epperson. Billie graduated from Big Cabin High School in 1944 and was the Valedictorian of her class. On February 1, 1947 she married Melvin James in Columbus, Kansas. Billie worked many places including, manager of the Chelsea Gas Company, the old Vinita Stockyards, Southwestern Bell, PSO, the Glass House, Secretary of Chelsea and White Oak Schools. She served on many boards, including the Delaware Tribe Housing Authority, founding and current member of the Chelsea Boys and Girls Club. Billie loved to go to Colorado, do crossword puzzles, watching sports, and especially being with her grandchildren. The family includes: her husband Melvin of the home, her children, Nicky Harris and friend Lee Greenwood of Chelsea, Brad James and wife Darla of Ft. Gibson Lake, Brent James of Chelsea, Chris James and wife Debbie of Chelsea; sister Norma Blount of Vinita, brothers, Jim Epperson and wife Johnnie of Antlers, Bob Epperson and wife Sonia of Ketchum; an aunt Mattie Harrison of Edmond; her grandchildren, Angie Harris of Chelsea, Wendy and Logan Miller also of Chelsea, Erinn Clocker and husband Kevin of Broken Arrow, Lindsey Harris of Dallas, Texas, Eric Harris and fiancée Sara Allen of Chelsea, Dusty Gregory of London, England, Emily James of Owasso, Callie James and Danielle Gregory both of Ft. Gibson Lake, Katy James and Bailey James both of Chelsea and one great-grandchild, Rylee Clocker of Broken Arrow; there are also numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also surviving. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday March 1, 2009 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Chelsea at the First Baptist Church, Pastor Ruth Campbell will officiate. Interment will follow at the White Oak Cemetery.
