Billy Ray James, 72, former area resident, died on June 28, 2008 in Needles, California. He was born February 12, 1936 in Keys, Oklahoma to J. C. and Juanita (Miller) James. Billy was a military man, serving twenty years in the United States Army, Billy did tours in New Foundland, Germany, and four in Viet Nam, and he finished his duties at Fort Ord, California. After retirement from the Army, Billy and his wife Betty owned and operated a restaurant. He loved to travel and also enjoyed cookouts with family and friends, but when it came time relax, he was most content sitting on the patio watching the Humming Birds. He is survived by; His loving and devoted wife Betty James, sons, Billy Jr., Tommy, step- son Mike Hull and step-daughter, Donna Lloyd, five grandsons, one granddaughter and three brothers. Preceding him in death was his father, J. C., mother Juanita, a brother two sisters and a granddaughter. Billy was no stranger to the Lord, In fact he got an early start in the Army of the Lord, and at thirteen years old he led his mother and father to the Lord at the old country church in Timber Hill north of Vinita. The graveside service will be held Monday, September 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Military rites will be performed by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team.
