Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK 918-786-2261.....Billy "Joe" Starts, passed away at the Integris Grove Hospital in Grove, OK on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the age of 86. Joe was born on February 4, 1928 in Ha Ha Tonka, MO, the daughter of the late Willard Papen and Viola (Fredrick) Papen. Joe grew up in Coffeyville, KS and graduated from Coffeyville High School. After school she went to work for Southwestern Bell. While she was working at Southwestern Bell she married Robert John Starts on December 14, 1950 in Coffeyville, KS. Joe and Robert moved back and forth between Wichita, Tulsa, and Coffeyville as Bob followed the aircraft industry. They moved to Tulsa in 1958 and remind there for a number of years, until moving in the mid 1990's to Grove, OK. when Bob retired. Joe was a founding member of the St. Elizabeth's Alter Society, and also helped start Santa's Old Broads. Joe enjoyed fishing, cooking, making candy and always enjoyed catching a Thunder and Dallas Cowboy game on T.V. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas when she created a large number of different chocolate candies that she share with family and friends. Most of all she loved to be with her family. She was noted for having an extra son or grandson from time to time as Stan, her son, was always bringing home kids to finish raising. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert. Also preceding her was her sisters-in-laws Dorothy Unruh and Katherine West and their husbands Bob Unruh and Jim West and niece Ann Unruh. She is survived by her son, Stan Starts of Grove, OK; one grandson Erwin Starts of Tahlequah, OK. There is also a group of young people that she fed and took in over the years. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Grove, OK on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Father Alex Kennedy, celebrant. Burial will follow at Olympus Cemetery in Grove, OK. A Rosary will be held at 6PM on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, OK followed by visitation until 8PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK. Friends and family may leave notes of encouragement by viewing Joe's Book of Memories at www.honoringmemories.com. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Elizabeth's Building Fund.
