Bobby Bellmyer

Mr. Bobby Ray Bellmyer, 84, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 in the Muskogee V.A. Medical Center. Bobby Ray was born October 18, 1927 on the rural Copan family farm. He was the fifth child of twelve born to Evelyn Bell Wagaman Bellmyer and Arlie Jessie Bellmyer. He was reared and attended school in Copan. He was enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 on April 6, 1945 and honorably discharged on May 10, 1946. He returned to Copan and completed his education, graduating with the class of 1947. He worked on area ranches and loved to cowboy and rodeo. He and Naomi Bitsko were married and made their home in Sand Springs, Okla. Two children were born to them. Later in life he was married to Evelyn Scott of Miami, Okla. They made their home there and were active artisans of the Miami Indian Tribe. Their bead work, moccasins and drums are on display in various prominent museums. Evelyn preceded him in death in 2006 and he returned to Copan to live in retirement. All his life he enjoyed his rodeo competition and never considered himself properly attired unless he had on his western hat. He was a member of the Dewey V.F.W. Post 10099. Survivors include his children, Michael Ray Bellmyer of Springfield, Missouri and Charlotte Elaine Bellmyer of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Gerald Bellmyer of Center, Texas, Elmer Bellmyer of Paris, Texas, J. C. Bellmyer of Dewey, Oklahoma, A. J. Bellmyer and Fred Bellmyer both of Caney, Kansas; sisters, Mrs. Maxine Medearis of Weatherford, Texas, Mrs. Louise Brown and Mrs. Harriet Thomas both of Copan, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gene, Russell and Larry Joe Bellmyer.
