Buford Dale Winters DVM Buford Dale Winters, age 91, Nowata resident died Sunday October 11, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family after being ill for quite some time. He was born August 15, 1918 in Blaine, Colorado to Harley Earl and Ina Pearl Winters. He graduated High School in Oswego Kansas, attended 2 years Parsons Junior College and was a member and player of the undefeated Championship Basketball team. Graduated from Kansas State University Veterinary College 1943, retired private practice 1962, Chanute Kansas, began with the Federal U.S.D.A. and retired in 1984. He was a life time member Kansas State Alumni Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association, He was an avid Big 12 football and basketball sports fan, He loved his KSTATE Wildcats. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tennis and golf. Most of all he loved being around his family. He practiced his carpentry skills and as the years went on they improved immeasurably, he was a hard worker and didn't want to quit until the job was done. We will all remember the fun we had at work or play. He never met a person he didn't like and he always enjoyed helping others. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Nadine, of Nowata, son and daughter-law Ken Winters DVM and Connie of Overland Park, Kansas, daughter and son-in law Shirley Martin and Joel of Bartlesville, daughter and son-in law Phyllis Crumbliss and Gary of Nowata. 8 Grand Children, Kevin Winters DVM and wife Heidi of Lake Lotawana, Missouri, Kelly Ponzer and husband Brian of Overland Park, Kansas, Tammy Durant and husband Jimmy of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Michael Sturdy and wife Amanda of Houston Texas, Peter Martin MD and wife Jeannie MD of New York City, New York, Alan Johnson and wife Angie of Nowata Oklahoma, Teresa Wright of Nowata Oklahoma and Audrey Crumbliss of Norman Oklahoma. 8 Great Grand Children, Cody Wright, Abby Hismer, Kelsy & Katlin Damrill, Austin and Regan Sturdy, Dillon and Reagan Ponzer. He was preceded in death by his parents Harley and Ina Winters and brother Harley Winters. In Lieu of flowers please contribute to 10-33 Ambulance or Nowata Library. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday October 17, 2009 at 11am in the sanctuary of the Hillside Christian Church in Nowata. Ben Killion will officiate.
