Carl Dean Edwards 83 year old area resident, died early Wednesday March 19, 2008 at the Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey, after and extended illness. He was born April 4, 1924 in Copan, Oklahoma to Carl and Bessie P. (Bricker) Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a graduate of the University of Tulsa, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He heroically served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps as a bombardier. Mr. Edwards received the Purple Heart Medal; he was shot down over Romania and was a prisoner of war. Mr. Edwards worked as a chemist for Arco Oil Company. He was a member of the Copan United Methodist Church. Mr. Edwards loved his cattle, horse racing and NASCAR racing. The family includes: his wife Grace and son Ted A. Edwards both of the home; a sister Ruth Ann Scott and husband John of Copan, a brother, W. H. "Buddy" Edwards and wife Leona of Dewey, a sister in-law Wanda Newman of Bartlesville and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The viewing will be held at the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Bartlesville from 9 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 20th & 21st. The family will have a private graveside service on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, Kansas, Pastor Justin Brown will officiate. Military rites will be by the Dewey Veterans Ritual Team. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
