Carl J. Elliott, 74 year-old lifetime area resident, died Monday December 14, 2009 at his home, after an extended illness. He was born April 1, 1935 in Vinita to Wilmer R. and Flossie Ann (Thompson) Elliott. Carl was a 1955 graduate of Vinita High School. He married Virginia Copeland on October 19, 1957 in Miami at the First Baptist Church. Carl was a welder and had worked for Wally Sparks, coal companies, and on other big machinery, towers and tractors in the area. He like to work in his shop making new things and repairing old things. The family includes: his wife Virginia of the home, two daughters, Terri Billen and husband Larry of Claremore, Jerri McComb and husband Mike of Edmond; a brother Glenn Elliott and wife Judy of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Marcie Billen and Kendra Biggs and husband William, and a great-grandchild Samuel Briggs; a niece Denise Geiger and a nephew Brett Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Curtis Elliott. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening December 17, 2009 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Vinita, with Pastors Skip McClain and Wade Markham officiating.
