Carl "Cobb" Edward Garrison 82, of Delaware passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at his residence. Carl was born on October 20, 1926 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Aubie M. and Minnie Leodis (Still) Garrison. He grew up in Tulsa but traveled to many different cities across the United States before settling in Delaware in 1991. Carl served 2 years, 5 months, and 15 days in the United States Navy as a First Class Sailor aboard the USAPASTORES-AF16 in the pacific during WWII. Carl married Effie Bernice McCulloch on June 2, 1946 in Boulder, Colorado. At the age of 16 Carl started his career as a master craftsman which involved being a union painter, electrician, and a carpenter. He was forced to retired at the age of 62 due to a hip injury. He was a member of VFW. Carl is survived by his 3 children Paul Eric Garrison and his wife Cecelia of Nowata, Nancy Leodis Wilson and her husband Willis of Cassody, Kansas, and Leora Jane Benson and her husband Donald Terry of Nowata, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren, 1 brother Robert L. Garrison and his wife Orlen of Tulsa and 1 sister Margee Madero of Tulsa, numerous other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Effie Garrison in 2004, his parents Aubie and Minnie Garrison, and 1 sister Frances Ilene Baker. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 in the Benjamin Funeral Chapel with Chaplin Roger Sheppard officiating. Russell Battenfield, Robert Garrison, Jimmy Garrison, Tom Sager, Willis Wilson, James Still, and Joshua Wooten will honor Carl Garrison by being the casket bearers. A private family burial will occur following the service at Ball Cemetery in Childers, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18th from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Benjamin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to a memorial fund sponsored through Arvest Bank in Nowata.
