Carl Ramond Gull I, 88 year old Nowata resident passed from this life Tuesday November 5, 2013. He was born November 13, 1924 in Deepwater, Missouri, to William and Opal (Schmidt) Gull. Carl graduated from Eureka, Kansas High school where he played quarterback on the football team and ran track. On December 18, 1942 Carl enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II as a radioman on the USS Chenango, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. During his service Carl was awarded the Good Conduct medal, Victory medal, American Campaign medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with 7 stars, and the Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon, with 2 bronze stars. On January 24, 1946 Carl was discharged and on March 23, 1946 he married Helen Louise Knizley in Wichita, Kansas. Carl attended school at Oklahoma A&M and graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Education, in May of 1951. They moved to Tulsa where they started their family and he worked for Braniff Airways and later working for Tulsa Winch where he worked for over 19 years. In 1970, the Gulls moved to Oologah, Oklahoma and resided there until moving to Nowata in November of 2009. Carl was a member of Nowata's Hillside Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home; three children, Carl Ramond Gull, II and his wife, Bonnie of Oklahoma City, Erin Lee Gull Riner and her husband, John of Nowata and Ralph Clifton Gull of Owasso, OK; a sister, Wilma Hughes of Aurora, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, Candice Gull Rennels and her husband, Corey of Mustang, OK, Rod Gull of Phoenix, AZ, Meghan Gull of Oklahoma City, Cliff Riner and his wife, Cathy of Bartlesville, OK, Carl Gull, III and his wife, Erin of Moorehead City, NC, Jake Riner and his wife, Bonnie of Bartlesville, Hayley Gull Ouverson and her husband, Kyle of Luther, OK, Ryan and Reed Hinton, both of Colorado, and Dalton and Lucas Gull, both of Catoosa, OK; six great-grandchildren, Riley and Annalee Rennels, Carl Gull, IV, Rowen and Ramsey Ouverson and Jackson Riner, plus two more on the way; a daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Young Gull of Catoosa and a niece, Stacey Gull Clark and her husband, John of Caldwell, TX. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; by a step-mother, Lucille Larimer Gull; three sisters, Vinnie "Vin" Gull Stice, Edith "Sug" Gull Fox and Mildred "Millie" Gull Culver and one brother, William "Dub" Gull.
