Carl James Simmons, 76 of Vinita, was called home on Thursday evening, January 2, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born at Kaw City, on July 4, 1937 to James and Beatrice Simmons. Carl married June Jolly on August 23, 1973 in Independence, Kansas, Carl and June moved to Vinita in 1976, he worked as a mechanic for the Peabody Coal Company until it closed. Carl owned and operated Simmon's Dozer Service for the past 37 years. His hobbies included square dancing, traveling and spending time with his family. The family includes; his wife June of the home; six children, Wayne Jolly and wife Judy, Reta Young and husband Bruce all of Vinita, Stephen Jolly of Bartlesville, Tamera Dunham and husband Glynn of Independence, Kansas, Carl Eugene and Archie Simmons of Arkansas; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Timothy Simmons and wife Brenda of Tulsa; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and one great-great-granddaughter. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Oak Baptist Church, with Pastor Leland Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita.
