Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, OK (918) 253-3222 - Carol Ruth (Chopper) Hamby, 65 year old Jay, OK, resident passed away on July 2, 2015. Carol was born on October 23, 1949, in Claremore, OK, to Johnnye and Helen (Friend) Chopper. Carol graduated high school in 1967, graduated Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in 1969, and received a Bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in 1971. Carol married Harlan Clary on August 29, 1969 Carol was crowned Cherokee Princess in 1969. She worked for the Department of Human Services from 1971-1999 and served as the Delaware County Director. She married Wayne Hamby on February 1, 1980 She was the executive director of Delaware County Friendship Homes on a volunteer basis from 2001-2003, and again from 2005-2014.She played piano for the Eucha Free Holiness Church. Her passion was helping people. Carol also enjoyed watching s westerns and going to church where she played the piano. She served on the Delaware County Historical Society Board and the Delaware County Friendship Home Board. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hamby; her parents, Johnnye and Helen Chopper; one brother, Gary Chopper; and one sister, Shirley Hutchison-Swinford. She is survived by one son, Johnnye Clary and wife Christal of Jay, OK; one daughter, Shani Clary of Zena, OK; 6 grandsons, Braden and Gavin Clary and Bubba, Tyler and Trey Baker and Jagger Jackson; and two great grandchildren, Baxter and Mason.
