Carol Bernice Loffer, 64, passed away July 30, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. She was born April 25, 1950 in Nowata to Delilah (Barry) and Joe Junior Hicks. Moving with her family as a child to California, she couldn't wait for the summers to come to ride the trains back to Oklahoma with her two brothers Tommy and Danny and sister Sheryl to spend the summer with her grandma and grandpa Hicks of the Twin Bridges area. These were her fondest memories. Moving back to the area as a teenager she attended and graduated from Alluwe School, Marrying her high school sweetheart, Gary McMains, and starting her own family with their two daughters. Later to divorce and move to Northwest Arkansas making a home with Larry Thompson of Rogers Arkansas for over 25 years. Together they raised his two children Gene and Teresa and Carol's daughter Carey. It was here that Carol fostered her love for horticulture, working for many different garden centers in the area over the years. She also had a great love for fishing. Her car was never without a fishing pole, 2 for her and 1 for you, and for anyone who showed interest. But of all of the things that she loved, she loved her grandchildren and eventually they had a fishing pole in her car as well. They spent a lot of time together going out to eat, shopping, driving around looking for a good place to fish, looking for bargains and just spending time together. Carol moved back to Nowata four years ago to be closer to her daughter Ginger. She spent the last 2 years living with her sister, Sheryl, as they both cared and shared companionship with each other. Carol is survived by her mother, Delilah Barry of Nowata; two daughters, Ginger and her husband Larry Albert of Nowata and Carey and her husband Lance Sprinkel of Bella Vista, AR; a brother, Danny Holcomb of Springfield, MO; a sister, Sheryl Quinton of Nowata; three grandchildren, Amber Winkleman, John Albert, Chelsea Sprinkel, several half-brothers and half-sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Carol was awaiting the birth of her first great grand-child 'Grand Girl Winkleman' any day now. She is preceded in death by her father, Joe Junior Hicks and a brother, Tom Hicks.
