Carolyn Coburn

GROVE, OK - Carolyn Martha Coburn, 94, passed away on June 17, in Grove, Oklahoma, due to cancer. She was born in Elgin, Illinois, March 19, 1913, to Arthur and Helen Scheele. She graduated from Elgin High School and attended MacPhail School of Fine Arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she pursued a career in modeling and acting. Carolyn and Roswell Coburn were married on August 7, 1939, and raised their family in Elgin. She was very active in community and church organizations including the American Red Cross, the Elgin Chamber of Commerce, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, and the Order of St. Luke healing ministry. She was honored for her work n the building of the Elgin Summer Band Shell. She loved gardening and traveling with family. She and Roswell retired to Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1972. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roswell, and two brothers, Arthur Scheele and Paul Scheele. She is survived by her sons, the Reverend Michael Coburn and his wife Lynn of Warsaw, Illinois and Rodger Coburn and his wife Frances of Lakeland Florida, one daughter Connie Jameson of Grove Oklahoma, six grandchildren, Luke, Charlie, Margaret, Cathryn, Karen, Jennifer, and two step-grandchildren, Eric and Ross; six great-grandchildren, Anna, Abigail, Addison, Elijah, Andrew and Ethan; three step great-grandchildren, Lara, Stephania, and Macey; one sister, Helen Hutter of North Carolina, and one brother Richard Scheele of Washington. After a memorial service in Grove Oklahoma, interment will take place in Geneva Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
