Carolyn A. Kirkpatrick, Afton area resident, died early Tuesday morning in Grove at the age of 61 years. She was born on March 28, 1949 in Stafford, Kansas to her parents Charles L. and Kathryn A. (Musil) Ireland. Her lifelong love of animals began by spending summers on a family farm as a child. She graduated from the College of Emporia in Emporia, Kansas with a Bachelors Degree in Physics, a Bachelors Degree in Music and a minor in Math. Carolyn married the love of her life, George Kirkpatrick, on September 5, 1971 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. Carolyn had a wonderful and full life. Along her life journey she embraced new experiences and touched the lives of many people. Carolyn founded and owned a court reporting business, earned a green belt in Karate, and led the Toastmasters Chapter 12 as president. While living in a historical house in Pomona, California, Carolyn served twice as President of Pomona Heritage. Her dedication to the preservation of historic homes assisted in creating one of the largest historical districts in California. In recent years, Carolyn enjoyed living on Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma. She adored being a grandparent, actively participating in St. Andrews Episcopal Church (especially singing in the choir and as a member of the Knit Wits), remodeling her house, birdwatching and her dachshunds. She also was an avid Star Trek fan and had an extensive collection of Star Trek memorabilia. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her granddaughter, Hope. Carolyn leaves many loving memories with her family, husband, George; son, George D. Kirkpatrick III and wife Aly; a grandson, Ian Kirkpatrick; brothers, Charles L. Ireland Jr. and wife Pam, John Ireland and wife Jan, and Jim Ireland and wife Judy, as well as many other loving relatives and a host of friends. Memorials may be made in Carolyn's name to the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 555 East 3rd Street, Grove, OK 74344. No local services are planned at this time.
