Carrie Amanda (ARNING) Mosher, age 97, of Nowata, Oklahoma died December 4, 2009 at Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center. Funeral Services for Mrs. Mosher will be held at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Wednesday, December 9, 2009, Nowata, Oklahoma with Rev. Rob Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service. Mrs. Mosher was born January 30, 1912 in the Big Creek area of Nowata County to Otto H. Arning and Minnie M. (Stierwalt) Arning. She attended Grade School at Whitehill School and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1931. She also graduated from Tulsa Business College. She worked for L.B. Price Mercantile Co. of Tulsa until 1938 at which time she returned to Nowata and worked for the Nowata Star and Nowata Chamber of Commerce until 1942. Carrie returned to Tulsa to work for the Army Corps of Engineers and in 1956 returned to Nowata to live, and worked at Oolagah Dam Project until she retired in 1970 from the Corps after 27 years of service. On December 25, 1961 Carrie married Delmer T. Mosher Sr. who owned his auto repair business in Nowata for 61 years before retiring. The couple commemorated their 35th wedding anniversary 3 days before Delmer passed away on December 28, 1996. After Carrie's retirement from one job, she took on several others because "she had to stay busy." She had the compassion and the determination to help get the "Meals On Wheels" Program started in Nowata County in 1972. By 1986 her commitment, dedication and management skills paid off when she succeeded in making the program locally funded. She also helped with cooking and meals delivery. Another "job" was volunteering to help the Dept. of Human Services with their "Toys Program." She served as Chairman from 1976 to 1994 and hundreds of toys came to her and Delmer to be refurbished to look new and then be given to a needy child. Carrie also made many lap robes and bibs for nursing homes and the Veteran's hospitals and hospices. Throughout Mrs. Mosher's life her foundation was built on God, her church and family for which she gave credit to her father. The Arning family motto is "God, Country and Family." Carrie never strayed from this and she said "God blessed her for it." Mrs. Mosher served as treasurer for the First Christian Church of Nowata for 10 years. She sang in the choir, was a member of the Akita Class and was active in Christian Women's Fellowship. Carrie received numerous community, county and state awards for her humanitarian volunteer services. Her pockets were bottomless to those in real need. Family and friends who wish, are asked to make donations to 1033 Ambulance and First Christian Church Scholarship, Choir and Building Funds. Mrs. Mosher is survived by one daughter, Sharon Barnett, Nowata, OK; three nieces: Beverly and Barbara McCreery, Kansas City, and Twylah Harn, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, one nephew: Terry Arning, Broken Arrow, OK; two sisters-in-law: Marie Mann, Gore, OK and Marie Arning, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
