Carson Jeff Tanner, age 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and heavenly family on August 6, 2011 at 3:45 a.m. in his home on Beaty Creek, east of Jay, Oklahoma. Carson was born on January 5, 1936 in Delaware County, Oklahoma to Scott and Sallie (Owens) Tanner. He was 12th born of 14 children and was blessed to spend the remaining days of his life in his family home where he was born. Carson loved to play horse shoes and was a skilled and accomplished player. He was well known in northeast Oklahoma for his skill and had countless first place trophies from competing in tournaments. He was also an avid OU football fan. Carson loved music and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar as well as the fiddle. Carson was a lifetime resident of Delaware County and was a member of the Piney Baptist Church. He dedicated his life to the Lord on May 13, 2004. Carson is survived by his loving companion of 26 years Sarah Lyman of the home. He is also survived by three sisters; Lillian Walker of Miami, Oklahoma, Wendy Johnson of Grove, Oklahoma and Flo Spotted Bear of Claremore, Oklahoma. Carson leaves a loving family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, the children of Sarah, his extended family, and a multitude of friends. Carson was preceded in death by two infant brothers, his parents, four brothers and four sisters; Jacob (JB), Henry, Richard and Clifford Tanner, Inola Jenkins, Betsy Martini, Imogene Drake and JoAnne Bryson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at the Piney Baptist Church with interment in Piney Cemetery with Reverend Junior Jones And Chaplain Terry Henson officiating.
