Graveside services for Catherine Brown are 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at MT. Washington Cemetery in Lenapah. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com. Catherine Nellene (Cook) Brown passed away January 19, 2013 at Windsor Place (Oxford Place) in Coffeyville, Kansas. She was born September 11, 1922 in Nowata to Cecil H. and Nancy L. (Weaver) Cook. Catherine worked from Kress 5&10, and during World War II was a "Rosie the Riviter" at Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa where she also learned how to wire the aircraft. On July 7, 1945 she married Ivan Dale Brown in Nowata. Over the years Catherine worked registering voters, babysitting, and picking pecans. She learned how to drive tractors and one day while she was pulling a trailer load of pecans it started to rain and she said it really scared her. She was in her 60's at the time. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation. Catherine was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved caring for her family and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivers include her husband Ivan "Dale" Brown of the home; three daughters, Nancy Carrol Powell and husband Jack of South Coffeyville, Linda Louise Northup of Lenapah, Cindy Lea Bates and husband Jim of Coffeyville, Kansas; two sons, Tommy Ray Brown and wife Alice of Nowata, Steven (Steve) Dale Brown and wife Sharon of South Coffeyville; seven grandchildren, Darry Powell, Sara Knight, Christine Spencer, Cody Brown, Dusten Brown, Blake Brown, Chad Brown, thirteen great grandkids, one great, great, grandkid; a sister in law Marilyn Cook of Skiatook, lots of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Nancy Cook; four siblings, Bill Cook, Carrol Cook, Newana Griffin, and Dale Cook.
