Cecil Randolph Woodall, was born to James Tucker Woodall and Anna Craig on November 20, 1923 in Craig County, Oklahoma. He passed away on September 25, 2012 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cecil grew up with his parents, three brothers and one sister in and around the Vinita area. He loved to reminisce about going to downtown Vinita for the Rodeo Parade, and was especially excited about the time he saw Will Rogers in the parade. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation and volunteered for the US Army at the age of 19. Tech Sgt. Cecil R. Woodall was a combat infantryman, Company B, 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division of World War II. He fought in five major battles in the European Theatre: Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes Forest, Battle of Bastogne and the Battle of the Hurtgren Forest. He was decorated with the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the European Theatre of Operation Medal with five stars. After the war he worked as a contractor, building many houses; pouring and finishing yards and yards of concrete. He moved to Kansas City with his wife Katherine and later lived with her and their four children in Lee's Summit, Missouri and Phoenix, Arizona, before moving to Grove, Oklahoma and finally Sante Fe, New Mexico. Cecil is survived by his wife Katherine Clanton Woodall, four children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two brothers and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Military Rites will be held Saturday, October 27th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Carselowey Cemetery southeast of Vinita. Online condolences can be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
