Charles "Chuck" Austin passed away on June 1, 2013. He was born at home on February 6, 1931 in Platte Township, Taylor County, Iowa to Clarence and Nellie Austin. Chuck graduated from Diagonal High School in 1949. After graduation he proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean War. When he returned from the Marines he worked for the Railroad and then returned to farming in Iowa where he raised his family. In 1980 Chuck moved to Robstown, Texas where he worked for Nueces Electric Cooperative as the Metering Supervisor. When he retired from the Cooperative he moved to Cassville, Missouri where he lived for several years. Chuck was united in marriage to Carol Lowman on November 15, 1996. Chuck moved to Vinita where he found many wonderful new friends and became a much loved member of the community. Chuck was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vinita. He dearly loved his family and his legacy of love for people will go on through them. He leaves behind many cherished friends. Chuck loved farming, gardening and providing a great Christmas display for the Vinita community. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Nellie Austin, his brother Eddie Austin and sister Virginia Morris. Survivors include his wife Carol Austin of Vinita, sons Mickey Austin (Terri Lynn) of Cassville, Missouri, Johnny (Nancy) Austin of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, daughters Terri Bernhardt (Don) of Des Moines, Iowa, Marla Monge (Jim) of Rockford, Illinois and Jennifer Lowman of Astoria, New York. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren with one on the way. One brother Tom Austin (Liane), brother-in-law Chuck Morris, sisters-in-law Bessie Austin, Charlotte Nutty, Vicky Hermann (Gene) and many nieces and nephews, Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 13 at Luginbuel's Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church with Sonja Toby officiating. Services are under direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home.
