Charles Richard Muckey, a son given by the Lord to Donald F and Eva L Muckey, was born at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, IA, on October 22, 1942, and passed away at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, MO on Thursday afternoon, March 31, 2011. The span of his earthly pilgrimage was 68 years, 5 months and 9 days. In the years prior to his passing he had expressed to his family members and friends his desire to serve his God on earth and to be with the Lord for eternity. Today we rejoice in the knowledge that he has passed the barrier of time as we know it and will forever be at home with the Savior he faithfully served for nearly 38 years. He is survived by his wife Dana and two sons: Lt. Col. Mark and wife, Susan of Mustang, Oklahoma and Kirk and wife Rachelle of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also remembered and loved by 3 grandchildren: Tanner, Noah and Shepard ; 3 grand dogs: Asti, Buddy and Bailey; a sister, Marsha Morris and husband Bob of Brighton, Colorado and 3 brothers, Donald and wife Glenda of Mapleton, Iowa, Michael and wife Sue of Sioux City, Iowa and Jim and wife Terre of Sioux City, Iowa. Richard graduated from Mapleton High School on May 24, 1960 and entered the US Navy, where he was trained as a Radar Specialist. Shortly after this, he was then accepted to the US Naval Academy. In 1964, he return to Sioux City, Iowa to begin working in the finance industry where he launched the greatest endeavor of his earthly career - his marriage to the love of his life, Dana Sue Anfinson of Cushing, Iowa, on April 23, 1965. Together, for nearly 46 years, they experienced the changing scenes of life in the joyous and fruitful companionship, which the Lord had entrusted to them. This union was blessed by two sons: Mark Andrew, born May 5, 1966 and Kirk Charles, born February 27, 1970. In 1984, he graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Morningside College and the University of Minnesota and enlisted in the Iowa Air National Guard where he worked as a Budget Analyst until his retirement on October 15, 1998. In 1973, at the age of 31, Rich made the decision upon which all other of his decisions came to hinge. He acknowledged his need for Jesus Christ and confessed the Lord as his Savior. We will always remember him as a man of deep faith and conviction. The Church was the focus of his life and in the bosom of the Church he served faithfully and displayed the Christian graces which today so richly bless our memories. Rich was a brother in Christ to so many and a constant source of encouragement to other believers. His family takes this occasion to thank their many friends for the kindnesses shown during this time of sorrow and during the course of his illness over the last few years. Christian friends, brothers and sisters, are indeed one of the greatest & meaningful gifts of life. "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them" (Revelation 14:13).
