Chester Bumpas

CHESTER L. BUMPAS Chester L. Bumpas, age 82, a resident of Bartlesville died Thursday May 4, 2006 at Jane Phillips Hospital. He was born September 23, 1923 in Direct, Texas the son of M.T. Bumpas and Maryetta Holkum Bumpas. The family moved to Fitzhugh, OK, where he was reared and received his formal education graduating from Fitzhugh High School. He served four years in U.S. Navy during WW11 in the South Pacific, Tarawa and New Guinea, where he earned several decorations and campaign ribbons. Upon returning from the war he began his employment with Sunray Oil Co, in Ada, OK where he and Billye Clark were united in marriage on April 18, 1946, and made their home. They moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Chester attended the University of Arkansas graduating in 1971. He taught high school history, and continued his education earning his Masters Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK, and became a high school assistant Principal until his retirement in 1985. Chester loved ranching and was involved in raising cattle for most of his life and was an avid rodeo fan, participating in Team Roping for many years. He enjoyed fishing and reading and was a member of the East Cross United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Chester leaves behind his wife of sixty years, Billye of the home, two sons and daughters in law, Mike and Pat Bumpas of Bartlesville and Dick and Gloria Bumpas of Ft. Worth, Texas, two grand children, Matt Bumpas and Amy Bullock, two great grandchildren Clayton Bullock and Riley Bumpas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Memorials have been established in Chester's name with the Salvation Army. Those who wish to made a donation may do so in care of their office at 508 W. Hensley Blvd. Bartlesville, OK 76003 Funeral services will be Saturday May 6, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Neekamp - Luginbuel Funeral home with Rev. Tom Cox officiating, with interment to follow in the Dewey Cemetery.
