Clarence Edward Dunbar, 83, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma died Friday, April 27, 2012 at his residence in Tallgrass Estates. Clarence Edward Dunbar was born February 5, 1929 in Pittsburg, Texas the son of Roy Conway Dunbar and Eunice O. (Warrick) Dunbar. Clarence grew up in east Texas, graduating from Texarkana high school in 1947. Following his elementary and secondary education, Clarence was drafted into the U.S. Air Force where he served until being forced to take an early medical discharge as a result of incurring a severe injury on duty. However, Clarence used the experience he gained through the Armed Forces as a catalyst to launch a very successful professional career. A graduate of the University of Tulsa, where he attained a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering, Clarence was hand-picked for employment by Mr. A. Arutunoff founder of Reda Pump Company of Bartlesville. His contributions not only helped Reda Pump to become the flourishing organization that it is, but also, gained Dunbar recognition as one of the experts in the oilfields electrical submersible pump industry. In fact, Clarence was a contributor to various textbooks and other publications regarding the oilfields ESP industry. Following a 38 year career with Reda, Clarence retired and continued to make Bartlesville his home. In his latter years, Clarence enjoyed his friends at Tallgrass Estates. Clarence was a life long Bridge player and was known to regularly play ‘42' dominos. He too enjoyed managing his investments with a particular eye on the stock market. His feline friend, Lanky, quickly became a celebrity as front door greeter at Tallgrass. Clarence was known as an intelligent person with a very dry sense of humor. Clarence was preceded in death by: his parents; mother of his children, Leah Ann Dunbar and his late wife, Shirley (Folk) Dunbar. He is survived by his children: son, Stephen Dunbar and wife Janet of Broken Arrow; daughter, Jane Dunbar of Bartlesville; three grandsons: Philip, Andrew and Spencer; his older sister, Montrose and younger brother Aubrey, both of Texas, his Tallgrass family and friends, and his beloved cats, Lanky and Tabby. Clarence came from a large family which did include 24 aunts and uncles and their heirs. At his request, the family will gather for a private time of reflection and sharing. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
