Clarence Mattix

August 12, 1927 — March 14, 2009

C.L. "Skeet" Mattix, 81, Independent Oil Producer and Nowata resident, died Saturday March 14, 2009 in Jane Phillips Medical Center. Honorary casket bearers will include Danny, Rusty, Randy, and Ron Mattix, Chester Grissom, Gerald Huntington, and Everett Sears. Skeet was born on August 12, 1927 in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Charles and Lessie Pearl Bingham Mattix. He attended Delaware, Adair, and Nowata Schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corp in 1945 and received Honorable Discharge in 1947. He returned to Nowata and married Mary Louise Cody on December 27, 1948. Skeet spent many years in the oilfield business as an independent oil producer and cattle rancher. Skeet is survived by his two children Terry Mattix and his wife Kathy of Nowata and Sharon Mattix Stevens and her husband Michael of Texarkana, Tx. One Grandson Dustin Mattix and his wife Devon of Nowata, one great granddaughter Jacey Louise Mattix of Nowata, two step grandchild and six step great grandchildren of Nowata, one brother Don Mattix and his wife Earlene of Oglesby, one sister Pauline Morris of Wichita, Ks. one sister in law Kay Cody of Nowata, and numerous cousins and many friends. Skeet is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jack, Bill, Jerry and Everett Mattix and one sister Helen Hicks. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nowata Volunteer Fire Department, 425 S. Cedar, Nowata, Ok 74048.
