Clois Benge passed away peacefully at Jane Phillips Medical Center on September 8, 2021. Clois was born on September 17, 1937 to Lawrence and Vida B Cartwright in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She attended Skeedee schools and graduated from Pawnee High School in 1955. Through mutual friends, Clois met and fell in love with Richard Benge. They married on April 14, 1956 in Clois’ home town of Pawnee, OK. They relocated to Shidler, where they began their family, and Clois gave birth to Kenneth in February of 1958 and Jeff in November of 1960, and Richard began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company. In 1963, Richard and Clois moved to Dewey, OK when Richard was transferred to Phillips' Corporate Headquarters in Bartlesville.
Clois led a full and active life in Dewey and Bartlesville that included volunteering with the Cub Scouts, working at Bluestem Elementary School and attending her sons’ many school and extracurricular events. Clois was a member of Dewey United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and helping out with hospitality. Clois, along with Richard, was active for many years in the Phillips 66 bowling leagues. Clois loved her children and grandchildren so much, and enjoyed traveling with Richard, visiting their children and grandchildren when they lived in Europe, as well taking them on special trips together, including several cruises and Disney World. She was a loving and nurturing Mom and Grandma and her kindness to others touched many lives.
Clois was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and her brother, Jimmy. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Son Kenneth Benge and his wife, Laura, grandsons Seth and his wife Cassie, Will and his wife Marissa, great-grandson George, granddaughter Betsy and her husband Mitch, great-granddaughter Mary and great-grandson James, and grandson Ted and his wife, Allison; Son Jeff Benge and his wife, Amy, granddaughter Cori, her fiancé Pat, and grandson Travis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Cindy Pickering of Pawnee, OK, her husband Kelly, their daughters Kelsi and Megan and son Wade, and many, many friends.
The funeral is planned for Clois at Dewey United Methodist Church in Dewey on Monday, September 13, 2021, at 2 PM. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville. Visitation with the family will be held from 1-2pm at Dewey United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dewey Methodist Church.
