Dallas Sammer, 94, died Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Dewey, OK. Dallas was born in Woodward Oklahoma to Fred and Laura Sammer August 10, 1915. He and his brother Andy and sister Mervene lived on a farm where their father farmed broomcorn. They later moved to Blackwell Oklahoma. The family made it through the Depression on meager supplies. After high school, he graduated from Business College. Shortly after accepting a business position, he was drafted into the Army. After serving a short stent as an enlisted man, he was accepted in officer candidate school and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in the Aleutian Islands in the artillery division. He married his wife Dolores who was an Army Nurse. After the war, they settled in Wichita and he worked for the Coleman Company. He continued in the Army Reserves and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. They had three children, Tandalynn, Michael and Brent. Later, the family moved to the country just west of Wichita on a small acreage. Dallas continued to work for Coleman Co. and farmed as a hobby. He later sustained a farming accident which cut short his working career. However, he continued to be productive and enjoy life. He and Dolores moved to Grand Lake for their retirement. She preceded him in death in 1998. Dallas was also preceded in death by his father, Fred Sammer, mother, Laura Christianson, brother, Andy Sammer, and sister, Mervene Goff. He is survived by his daughter, Tandalynn and Sons Michael and Brent Sammer. He also is survived by his grandchildren Carl W. and Shawn Younts, Jamie Weaver, Amanda Lamb and Gregory Sammer. His surviving great grand children are Kale, Devin, and Gracelynn Younts, and Kaylee Weaver. He was proud to have two fine granddaughter-n-laws: Tina Younts and Abby Younts and also grandson -n-laws: Nicholas Weaver and Christopher Lamb. He was always comforted by the loving care and affection from his daughter-n-law, Betty Sammer. He was known for his creative flair and his ability to take discarded paraphernalia and construct a unique novelty which invariably found a practical use. He past this craftsmanship to his family. His loving memory will be kept in the hearts of his family and friends. He is laid to rest and peace. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Carter Hospice, 3081 SE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, Ok 74006. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Sammer will be held on January 9, 2010 at 12:00 pm in the Maize Park Cemetery, Maize, Kansas.
