Daniel George Canoe, 76 year-old Colcord resident, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He was born March 26, 1935 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Lizzie (Bark) Canoe. Daniel was a graduate of Chillocco Indian School. He was retired from the United States Navy, serving his country nearly 20 years. Daniel married Eura (Potter) on May 18, 2007. He lived in the Kansas and Colcord area most of his life. Daniel enjoyed travelling to Louisana eating and visiting with his family, watching Sooner Football and driving the backroads. The family includes: his wife Eura of the home, son, Russell Charles Canoe and wife Kathy Jo, daughter, Patricia Ellen Canoe and companion Olivar Caravantes of Bentonville, Arkansas, two brothers, Joseph Canoe of Dry Prong, Louisiana, Richard Canoe of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Evelyn Roberts and Thelma Canoe, both of Tahlequah; grandchildren, Jonathan Sanders, Diego Sanders, Darren Sanders, Joseph Canoe, Benjamin Canoe; great-grandchildren, Asha Danyel, Myllie, Allison Nicole, Austin Mark, Sky Nicole, Nava Leann, Izzabella, and Skyy-Rayn. Step-children, Joyce Leatherman of Colcord, Kathy Canoe of Twin Oaks, Marilyn Bennett of Colcord, Janice Evans of Twin Oaks, Chester Swake, Jr. of Kansas; 20 step-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death includes; his first wife Ellen Alice Canoe, sisters, Ophelia Hammons, Marion Keener; brothers, Roger Canoe, Charles Canoe, John Canoe; grandson, Tony Canoe and great-grandson, Elijah Daniel Canoe. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay. Casket bearers will be Jonathan, Diego, and Darren Sanders, Joseph and Ben Canoe, Brandon Leatherman, and Dennis Arnecher. The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Worley-Luginbuel Chapel, with Pastors Larry Ellis and Richard Canoe officiating.
